Connecting with Grief this Dying Matters Week

Grief doesn’t always arrive in words. Sometimes it sits in the body, in the quiet, in the space where words simply aren’t enough. This Dying Matters Week, a series of events around the country are offering different ways in, through movement, music, mindfulness, and creativity for anyone looking to connect with their grief, rather than push it aside.

There’s no single right way to grieve, and no single way to process it either. For some, that might look like sitting quietly with breath and stillness. For others, it’s dancing it out, walking alongside someone who understands, or picking up a paintbrush, a needle, or a broken piece of pottery. What all of these events share is a simple belief: that grief deserves space, and that finding your way through it can take many different forms.

Making room for these creative and mindful approaches also plays an important part in bringing death and dying out of the shadows and into the spotlight. When grief is met with dancing, breathwork, or gold-filled pottery rather than silence, it becomes something we can explore together rather than carry alone.
