Treza Gallogly: Providing Holistic End of Life Support through ELDAA

In this episode, we delve into an old profession that has resurfaced around the world in the last few decades, and more recently in Aotearoa. There is a growing movement of doulas across the country and one of the people behind this growing movement is Treza Gallogly, the Chair of ELDAA — the End of Life Doula Alliance Aotearoa.

Through her mahi, Treza is helping to re-humanise the dying process, restoring agency and connection to individuals and families, and supporting holistic end-of-life care. Doulas walk alongside people in their final chapter, providing emotional, cultural, and spiritual support and helping families navigate one of life’s most profound transitions.

We explore what end-of-life doulas actually do, why ELDAA was founded, the unique contributions doulas make alongside – not instead of – medical and hospice teams, and how global evidence is reshaping the way communities think about dying. We also talk about what Treza is seeing in Aotearoa, what’s missing in our current models of care, and her vision for a future where compassionate, holistic end-of-life support is accessible to all.
