Losing a baby is a devastating experience for the families involved. If you have lost a baby or are facing the loss of a baby, it is important to know what support and help is available. There are books, guides and podcasts that deal with child loss, explaining death to other children, helping children deal with losing a sibling, and losing a loved one suddenly, that families may find useful.

Financial support

Depending on the individual situation and family income, parents or guardians who lose a child may be able to apply for a funeral grant via Work and Income.

If a child has died as a result of an injury covered by ACC, parents and guardians are able to apply for financial support in the form of funeral or memorial costs, one-off payments and loss of income. Once an application is received the family will be assigned a support person to help them through the process.
