I have practiced yoga for many years and used it to help me deal with some of the effects of my own grief. This is one of the reasons that I became a yoga teacher, because I could see the benefits of using yoga to deal with grief.
I am particularly interested in the mental health benefits that practicing yoga can bring, for example calming the nervous system, helping to deal with stress, and promoting better sleep.
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that induces a state of relaxation between waking and sleeping, promoting deep rest and stress reduction.
There’s no wrong way to practice yoga Nidra and whether people stay awake, drift in and out of consciousness or fall asleep they will still benefit from the practice.
What people should bring:
A yoga mat if they have one (I will bring some spare mats that people can borrow).
Something warm to put on for relaxation – in the case of the Yoga Nidra class because we won’t really be moving around I’d suggest people bring a few things to keep warm (eg maybe a blanket + extra layers of clothing) and a cushion or two to make them as comfortable as possible.
