Welcome to Dying Matters Week Wellington.
End of Life Doula, Registered Nurse and co facilitator of the Hutt Valley Death Cafe, Melanie Humphries-Connolly brought Dying Matters Week 2024 to Porirua. This event is all about supporting people to start conversations, learn from experts, and feel empowered to put end-of-life planning in place to bring peace of mind to themselves and their loved ones.
The Porirua Library, hosted events from 5th to 11th August, including resources and displays, a curated collection of books on grief and dying, poetry and stories from the local community and opportunities to chat with Mel about end of life and palliative care.
Arapaki Library in central Wellington also had books on grief and end of life planning brochures on display during the week.

DIY Funeral Workshop – 10th August
The average cost of a funeral is $10 000 but with know-how and family and community support, a dignified funeral process can be done for around a $1000 – including a service, modest catering etc.
