Join our Hospice Tairawhiti Family support coordinator Jen Clarke and Volunteer Coordinator Jane Kibble as they discuss their respective support roles for patients, whanau and carers in the palliative care space. This is an open discussion to learn about the support and carer experience, how you can best help your loved ones in palliative care, and how you can help as a volunteer. We will also discuss how best to nurture yourself as the carer/whanau in a selfcare/wellbeing capacity. Does consciousness continue after death, or is it lights out? Director Johanna Lunn guides viewers on a personal journey to find answers by exploring stories of near-death experiences, deathbed visions, and more. She speaks with leading clinicians and researchers who have spent their careers studying these experiences and the nature of consciousness. We will follow the film with a thought-provoking Q&A session.

Nicole West from Growing Through Grief will be joining Hospice Tairāwhiti’s drop-in group ‘Good Grief’ at Tāiki E! on Wednesday the 3rd September, to make herself available to the open conversation about life, death and grief. Nicole comes from ‘Growing Through Grief’, a local service supporting children, young people, and adults through all things change, loss, and grief. Join Nicole to learn more, ask questions, and hear some common myths about grief get busted.

Books can be quiet companions through life’s hardest chapters. In this sharing circle, we’ll talk about books that have helped us navigate death, dying, and grief. Bring a favourite to recommend – whether it’s a memoir, a novel, poetry, or a practical guide – or simply come to listen and discover new reads. Join Lizzy Ngatai-Hawtin for a relaxed, hands-on weaving workshop where we will create remembrance stars together. Join Lisa to discover Qi Gong as a tool to help you navigate the physical and mental toll that can come grief. Lisa will talk briefly about Qi Gong, and then she will take you through a short gentle practice of mindful movement and conscious breathing that helps to restore balance – physically, emotionally, and energetically. During times of grief, this ancient practice offers a compassionate space to reconnect with your body, release held tension and support emotional healing. With regular practice, Qi Gong can enhance flexibility, strengthen the immune system, and promote resilience and inner calm. If you can breathe … you can do Qi Gong. Through gentle movement and conscious breathing, Qi Gong helps to: Calm mental and emotional states Strengthen immune system Energise the body No booking required but there is limited space so please arrive on time if you can. Free 6 session workshop with Gillian Moon. Journaling can provide a private and quiet space to express emotions, record precious memories and help to find meaning during times of big feelings and during times of loss and change. Writing can be a gentle companion when navigating sorrow and help us to find pockets of peace along the way.
