Compassionate Communities Hui

Building a Village of Support

Dates: 22nd – 24th May 2025
Venue: Whangārei Theatre Company and Hihiaua Cultural Centre
Co-hosts: Go With Grace and North Haven Hospice
Theme: ‘Building a Village of Support’ – for ourselves, our whānau and our communities.

Compassionate Communities can build our villages of support, and shape how we turn up for each other at all stages of life. Be a part of this growing, grassroots movement.

Secure your spot at the Compassionate Communities Aotearoa Hui in Whangārei from 22nd – 24th May. Come together and connect with a diverse group of health practitioners, hospices, carers, volunteers, whānau, palliative care specialists, doulas, community leaders, wellness providers, and more, to help guide and grow compassionate communities for Aotearoa.

Over two full days, you’ll hear powerful stories from people with lived experience, and others who have walked alongside and held space for these brave souls. Connected experiences will let you explore some of the many perspectives of ageing, death, dying, caring, and grieving. And you’ll have the opportunity to join meaningful hands-on workshops to deepen your understanding.

You’ll also get the chance to build your own village of support – personally and professionally – as you help to shape the future of compassionate communities in Aotearoa.

Spaces are limited to just 120 tickets. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this important kaupapa.

About Compassionate Communities

If it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to support, care for and be there for those who are dying and their whānau. It’s about working together, looking out for one another and returning to a place where death and dying is a normal part of our lives.

Compassionate communities are a grassroots movement where the community itself determines and leads the way in reskilling our approach and sharing knowledge and skills to holistically live every moment of our life right to the end.  While the movement has gained significant traction internationally, this is only the second national event to be held in New Zealand. North Haven Hospice fully supports this event and is delighted to participate where we have been asked to contribute. We would encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to learn, share and contribute for the benefit of your own communities, not just for now but for our shared futures as well.
